Friday night at Virant J. Field, the football team beat Rocori 40-13 at their homecoming game. Rocori’s fan section was rowdy at first, even holding a sign that said “Sabres Killed Harambe,” but their excitement was quickly muffled by Sabre’s tenacious offense.

It was a high intensity game, featuring Sartell’s best offensive game all season. The boys accumulated 413 yards, rushing 40 times for 223 yards, and additionally passing for 192. It was the aggressive start, solid defense, and aggressive offense that led the Sabres to their second win in a row.

Devin Vouk had a four-yard run, followed by Jordan Och’s extra point that racked the score up to 7-0. Lineman Mitchell Zayas tackled Rocori’s quarterback Connor Schoborg in the end zone for a safety. Och then scored a 31-yard field goal making it 12-0, with still four minutes left in the first quarter.

The next three touchdowns sealed the deal for the Sabres. Trent Meyer and Brandan Walz each received a pass from quarterback Chris Belling, who also ran one in.

The knockout was a great way to give the boys their confidence back. The win also is great momentum into this Friday’s homecoming game, where they will take on Sauk Rapids at 7.
